About Craniosacral Therapy

“Listening with the fingers” to the body’s subtle rhythms

Craniosacral Therapy (CST) works with the fluid that is inside the spinal cord and surrounds the brain. It has a rhythm separate from your breathing and heart rate. When your breathing and heart rate are too high or too low, you are in the hospital working to figure out what’s wrong. When your cranial rhythm is too high, you’re having a bad day and don’t know why.

Using a light touch, Bear can feel the rhythm of the fluid, determine blockages, and release them.

Craniosacral Therapy can relieve the underlying conditions that cause:

  • migraines and headaches
  • constipation
  • irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)
  • disturbed sleep cycles and insomnia
  • sinus infections
  • neck pain
  • fibromyalgia
  • recurrent ear infections
  • TMJ
  • trauma recovery, including trauma from whiplash
  • mood disorders like anxiety or depression
  • difficult pregnancies

Birth can be traumatic and can cause tensions and restrictions in a baby’s head, spine and body. Craniosacral Therapy and Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment (OMT) is a safe and natural way to resolve problems resulting from a difficult birth, regulate internal functions, and support healthy development. Treatments can be used to resolve the following pediatric conditions:

  • difficulty nursing /latching challenges
  • restricted jaw opening
  • jaw clamping
  • weak suck action
  • on/off fussing
  • difficulty swallowing
  • excessivespit-ups (reflux)
  • one-sided feeding challenges (head turns more easily in one direction)
  • crossed or wandering eyes
  • asymmetrical head

Bear offers craniosacral therapy to infants (under 1yo) for free.

A difficult birth is one where the baby exits the birthing canal by excessive use of force, use of forceps, or a vacuum extractor. Though necessary to ensure a safe birth, use of force and instruments can result in structural disturbances. The bones in your infant’s skull must decrease in size to pass through the birthing canal, which leads to overlapping of joint lines and possible visual asymmetries. The head is simultaneously bent backwards pressing down on key nerves which run from the brain to the mouth, tongue, and lips.
Another form of difficult birth is a Caesarian. The baby almost always emerges from the procedure with significant torsion and strain patterns, including torticollis. In addition, the baby has not had the benefit of going through the birth canal, where the unique architecture of the mother’s body interacts with her baby and this pressure shapes, distributes and initializes vital internal systems of its body including expelling fluids from the lungs.
As the infant grows, these structural changes may correct themselves within the first weeks of birth. When they don’t, the infant can begin to experience neurodevelopmental problems

Craniosacral therapy uses very light touch and is suitable for people of all ages, including babies, children and the elderly, and can be effective in acute or chronic cases. You will lie comfortably on a treatment table while only removing shoes and jewelry.
